In
the Fall of 2006 the Community Task Force on NYU Development
was initiated and soon overseen by Manhattan Borough
President Scott Stringer who secured the participation of
New York University President John Sexton as well as City,
State and Federal stakeholders toward a major city-wide
planning initiative. By January 2008, the Task Force
and New York University adopted Guiding Principals for
expansion planning that were also approved by Manhattan
Community Boards 2 and 3. Three months later, on April
23rd, 2008, NYU unveiled planning concepts from a
collaborative team of urban and environmental planners
through a series of public open houses soliciting feedback.
On August 4th, 2010
Manhattan
Borough President Stringer, Councilmember Margaret Chin,
Community Board 2, and other local elected officials
co-hosted a Land Use Education Forum on NYU’s proposed
expansion to inform the public about the landmarks and land
use processes at the Center for Architecture in Greenwich
Village. Here is the

On March 25th, 2010 the Task
Force released a report reviewing the process over the last
two years.

offered a revised framework for multi-level examinations and
conversations as we approach the next phase of NYU's 20-year
development plan.
The goal of this forum is to
effectuate an urban campus plan that balances the needs of
the University, the City and its communities for harmonious
long-term compatibility and growth.
